Most ducted air handling units require a ceiling void of at least 250–350mm. Loft spaces, suspended ceilings, and purpose-built ceiling voids all work well. We assess the available void depth during the free site survey and advise on the best routing options for your property.
A single-zone ducted system in a typical three-bedroom home typically takes two to three days for the first fix (AHU installation, ductwork, and outdoor unit). The second fix (grilles, controls, and commissioning) takes a further half to one day. Larger or more complex systems may take longer.
The outdoor condensing unit is usually permitted development for domestic properties, subject to size and location criteria. The internal ductwork and AHU do not require planning permission. Listed buildings and properties in conservation areas may have additional restrictions — we will advise during the site survey.
Yes — domestic ducted AC installations qualify for 0% VAT under the Energy Saving Materials relief, as the system qualifies as an energy-efficient heating and cooling technology. Commercial installations are subject to standard 20% VAT.
Yes — all modern ducted AC systems operate as heat pumps, providing both cooling in summer and heating in winter. They are significantly more efficient than electric resistance heating and can be used as the primary or supplementary heat source for the property.
